Panama Carnival

February · 4 days Las Tablas (Azuero) and Panama City

Panama Carnival is the country's most anticipated and massive celebration, an explosion of joy, music, color, and tradition that transforms cities and towns during the four days before Ash Wednesday. The epicenter is Las Tablas in the Azuero Peninsula, where the historic rivalry between the Calle Arriba and Calle Abajo neighborhoods creates a spectacular competition of elaborate floats, sumptuous costumes, fireworks, and queen elections. The culecos — parades with water tanker trucks that spray cold water over the crowd — are the most refreshing and fun tradition. Panama City also celebrates with massive parties on the Cinta Costera, concerts of salsa, reggaeton, and traditional music. It is a culturally unique experience where Panamanian tradition is lived with unmatched energy.
